✡️ European Jewish Congress (EJC) – reprezentujący ponad 40 społeczności żydowskich w Europie – nazwał działania Ben-Gvira „publicznym upokorzeniem” i „haniebnymi”.

Brussels, May 21 – The European Jewish Congress strongly condemns the disgraceful actions of Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir following his public humiliation of detained pro-Palestinian activists from a flotilla that had attempted to illegally enter Gaza.

This shocking display by the minister runs counter to Israeli and Jewish values and the rule of law, and only grants legitimacy to a group of Hamas-supporting activists who have shockingly been turned into heroes by his reprehensible and counterproductive actions.

The EJC welcomes similar statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, who have clearly distanced themselves and the government from Ben-Gvir’s antics.

The public humiliation and mocking of people arrested and about to be deported does nothing to enhance Israel’s security and has no place in a Jewish state. It diminishes the fight against terrorism and only gives succour to Israel’s worst enemies.

✡️ Board of Deputies of British Jews – wyraziło „obrzydzenie i potępienie” dla traktowania zatrzymanych, nazywając je „całkowicie niewybaczalnym i sprzecznym z naszymi wartościami”.

Board of Deputies Acting President Adrian Cohen has condemned an unprovoked attack on an Israeli visitor in Golders Green, north-west London.

He said: “The assault on an Israeli visitor in Golders Green is another deeply disturbing reminder of the growing wave of antisemitic violence we are witnessing in London. No one should face intimidation or attack because they are Jewish.

“In recent weeks, the Jewish community has endured stabbings, arson attacks, threats and repeated acts of hatred that have left many fearful for their safety.

“Our thoughts with the victim and his loved ones, and we urge the authorities to ensure those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.”

The Zionist Federation of Australia condemns the inflammatory and disgraceful behaviour displayed by Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in relation to the detained Gaza flotilla activists.

Minister Ben-Gvir’s behaviour falls far below the standards expected of a Minister of the State of Israel. He has repeatedly embarrassed Israel through extremist rhetoric and performative conduct that undermines Israel’s international standing and weakens confidence in its leadership. We join the Israeli Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in condemning his actions. A person with this record of behaviour should not serve in the Israeli Government.

Criticism of Minister Ben-Gvir is not a defence of the flotilla. The flotilla was a deliberate provocation that sought to generate confrontation rather than contribute constructively to humanitarian outcomes. Israel was within its rights to prevent attempts to breach the maritime blockade of Gaza by a flotilla involving individuals sanctioned by the United States over alleged Hamas links and backed by organisations alleged to be operating on Hamas’ behalf.

ZFA President Jeremy Leibler said Minister Ben-Gvir does not represent mainstream Israeli society nor the views of the overwhelming majority of the Australian Jewish community.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar were absolutely right to publicly condemn this behaviour. When Israel’s own senior leaders describe conduct as unacceptable and disgraceful, it demonstrates just how far outside acceptable standards it was,” Mr Leibler said.

“Minister Ben-Gvir’s behaviour handed Israel’s critics exactly the imagery and narrative they were seeking, while doing nothing to advance Israel’s security or diplomatic interests.”

ZFA CEO Alon Cassuto said supporters of Israel should be prepared to speak honestly when Israeli public figures damage the country’s reputation and national interests.

“Supporting Israel does not require defending every action of every minister,” Mr Cassuto said.

ECJA

The ECAJ has condemned Israeli Minister Itamar Ben Gvir for his humiliating and disgraceful treatment of a group of overseas anti-Israel activists who had been detained in Israel after attempting to break the blockade of Gaza.

ECAJ President Daniel Aghion said ‘Nothing can excuse the appalling behaviour displayed by Minister Ben Gvir against a group of people who were being held in custody in Israel. We agree entirely with the comments of Israel’s Foreign Minister and Prime Minister condemning Ben Gvir’s actions as disgraceful.

The fact that the group had been engaged in an unlawful and provocative action that would benefit Hamas was the reason they were detained, but it does not in any way justify their mistreatment while they were being held. There is simply no excuse.”
