JCIC repudiates charge of Israeli genocide

November 22, 2024. In light of the recent controversy arising from a comment by Pope Francis recorded in Hernán Reyes Alcaide’s “Hope Never Disappoints: Pilgrims Toward a Better World”, the International Committee for Interreligious Consultations (IJCIC), the body representing the organized Jewish community in its interactions with the leadership of world religions, including the Vatican, finds it necessary to respond to the charge that Israel may be engaged in genocide in Gaza.

First and foremost, this charge, as we shall explain, is categorically false. To grant it any credibility is deeply problematic and objectionable. Doing so serves only to frustrate any resolution of the conflict and fuels an already out of control global antisemitism. Let us turn to a brief summary of the reasons why the suggestion that Israel may be guilty of genocide should be thoroughly dismissed.

Piotr Cywiński: ... prędzej czy później dochodzi do haseł jawnie antysemickich, które w tej chwili próbuje się ubierać w nowomowę, ale to jest często dyskurs, który bardzo szybko ewoluuje w kierunkach zaskakująco historycznych. On psuje całość dyskursu publicznego i potrafi bardzo utrudnić działania edukacyjne. Na razie w Polsce to jest stosunkowo w niewielkim stopniu obecne. Ale już na przykład na uniwersytetach amerykańskich powszechne. Wróciłem niedawno stamtąd i to, co się tam dzieje w tej kwestii, w zasadzie już jest nie do ogarnięcia.

When the Holy Land was once again plunged into violence on October 7th last year, Elijah Interfaith responded with intensified prayers. Our ongoing program, Praying Together in Jerusalem, increased its activity from monthly to weekly gatherings under the subject-line, "Upholding the Dignity of the Human Person." Weekly, teachings were offered by leaders and teachers of all major faiths, highlighting the value of the human person as an ideal that must be maintained, even at times of war and even following the events of October 7th. These teachings were followed by prayers, suitable to the context, and more broadly with the hope for eventual peace. After half a year of learning and praying, we created this short video compilation.
